30 acre meadows beside the River Onny at Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre
These riverside water meadows lie behind Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre. The Meadows' surfaced paths provide access to the fields and pools via a wheelchair accessible viewing platform. In Spring and Summer the pools are alive with wildlife. Other unsurfaced paths range further and explore the banks of the River Onny.
The hard-packed, generally level, surfaced paths provide a half-mile (700m) circuit. In very wet weather the paths can be boggy in places but are generally good. The circuit includes access to a pond viewing platform. Mown paths along the river bank are best tackled in summer when dry. There are some gates. Bench seating is located in attractive settings.
All ability access paths were new in 2017, making access to the popular Kingfisher Corner much easier for those using buggies or wheelchairs. Here you will find a wheelchair friendly picnic bench to enjoy your lunch whilst you enjoy the peaceful meander of the River Onny.
Please note that whilst we make every effort to ensure that our paths provide suitable access for wheelchair users, we can't guarantee that the surface will always be smooth enough to allow access for everyone. If you are unsure about access, please call the Centre prior to your visit and we will be happy to advise you.
The Discovery Centre provides parking, a shop, toilets and a gallery café. It has an exhibition called ‘Shropshire Hills Through Time,’ and provides free wifi access.
