Some sad news...
A loss for our Onny Meadows otters.
Unfortunately, we have some sad news to share - one of our resident otters has been found dead on the A49.
The matter has been reported to the Environment Agency, who are investigating, so we hope to discover the cause of death. We're extremely proud to look after 1km of the River Onny which supports a healthy population of fish and crayfish, the natural prey of these stunning apex predators, so to lose such a magnificent specimen is a blow to all of us.
We think the deceased animal was the dog Otter, so we are keeping our fingers crossed that it may have already mated with the female who is capable of rearing the kitts single handedly. Sadly, if not then there will be no baby otters this year.
